Richard Gutierrez
He’s sleek. He’s suave. He’s cool. Women easily fall prey to his charms. After all, he comes from a family blessed with good looks—‘60’s screen heartthrob Eddie Gutierrez is his father and 1993 Miss World Second Princess Ruffa Gutierrez is his elder sister. But there’s more to Richard Gutierrez than meets the eye. He is not your typical matinee idol.
Despite his family background, he was first reluctant to enter show business, opting to concentrate on his studies. After much prodding from his mother, former sexy siren Annabelle Rama, Richard finally gave in to the acting bug.
But he did not take the easy route to stardom. He had to audition to GMA- 7’s teenybopper show Click and go through acting workshops as well. It wasn’t long, however, before he was playing the lead in Mulawin, Sugo and Captain Barbell.
“He really immerses himself in the character”, says TV director Dominic Zapata, who directed Richard in these three tele-fantasy shows. “He does his research. What he likes is to show various talents for every role that he portrays. When he arrives on show taping, he already knows his lines. He makes sure he no longer is Richard Gutierrez when he dons a character.”
Indeed, Richard is an “all-in-one package”, Director Dominic says. “He’s good-looking, tall, very nice, professional, growing, has a good taste when it comes to making choices. He has everything. It’s really hard to find that kind of guy nowadays.”
